Bachelor of Arts with honors cum laude & Master of Arts in Latin & Greek from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Juris Doctor (law) degree with honors from the University of Florida in 1988. Steve was the Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review and published three articles while still in law school. Steve was awarded membership in the coveted Order of the Coif, an honor society reserved for graduates in the top 5% of the last five years of law students at their respective school.
After obtaining his law degree, Steve clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit with Nixon appointee, the Honorable Thomas Gibbs Gee.
Following the clerkship, Steve returned to Florida to practice transactional business law. He soon returned home to establish his own practice in his native city of Springfield. He maintains his license to practice in Florida and has clients in the Sunshine State.
Steve has served as Chairman of the Trial Practice Committee for the Springfield Metro Bar Association. The Committee provides educational opportunities and member support to trial lawyers. For the first time in several years, the Committee presented seminars on the following jury trial issues:
• Pleadings/Summary Judgment Motions
• Pretrial Discovery
• Expert Depositions
• Voir Dire (jury selection)
• Evidence, Exhibits, & Foundations
• Jury Instructions
• Unwritten Rules of Trial Practice Civility
Steve has presented personal injury seminars to attorneys for the Missouri Bar for several years. The seminar topics have included instruction on:
• Various types of personal injuries
• Dealing with insurance companies
• Calculating personal injury damages
• Conducting effective depositions
